Alaska Farmland Trust

Alaska Farmland Trust is a
501(c)3 Non-Profit

New Non-Developments:

Alaska Farmland Trust completed its first voluntary conservation easement on the LeRoi and Margaret Heaven property in July of this year.  It only took two years and a  two-drawer file cabinet full of documents but our next one will be faster and easier!  The Heaven Conservation Easement is a 40 acre parcel in the Matanuska Valley that is currently in production with hay and potatoes.

If you missed the Heaven Ribbon Cutting event you missed out on a great time!  The food was phenomenal (thank you Mobley family and Chef Dubay from Glacier Brewhouse), the company was great, and the weather blessed us with beautiful sunshine.  The Boy Scouts Troop and Pack 367 were awesome doing the Flag Ceremony, and the Mountain Waxwings and Friends provided us with fantastic music from the hay wagon stage, even including an original song written for the event by Suzy Crosby and Hobo Jim!

New-Voluntary Easements:

The next Alaska Farmland Trust conservation easement project will be the James and Debra McCormick property.  This voluntary easement will be on the McCormick’s 40 acre parcel in the Palmer-Fishhook area which is currently in production with hay and some cattle and horses.

AFTC is also working on the Alaska State Fair Property, a 40 acre parcel now in hay production.  This parcel was formerly the original Colony Homestead Hamilton Diary.  You may remember that this parcel was being sold to Northern Industrial Training for use as a Dormitory and Driver Training Facility.  Through cooperative efforts from NIT, the Alaska State Fair, the Mat-Su Farm Bureau, Palmer Soil and Water Conservation District, and numerous others this parcel is now participating in the conservation program.

We have several other property owners interested in having voluntary easements on their land, and we are working toward agreements for voluntary conservation easements.   You can help by making a donation here.

Thank you for your continued support!
